A Strong Dad's Resource

The National Fatherhood Initiative is an organization dedicated to improving the well being of children by increasing the number of children who grow up with committed involved and responsible fathers. They have a three pronged approach towards their goals - Educating, Equipping, and Engaging fathers.

Not a deadbeat, uninvolved, uncommitted father? That doesn't mean that there's no room for improvement. Here's a list of 10 ways to be a better dad - some basics to be sure, but if you never review the basics you tend to forget them.

What follows are some interesting statistics regarding fatherhood.

  • 34% of children live without their biological father
  • 27% of children live in single parent households
  • In the year 2000, 33% of all births occurred out of wedlock
  • 40% of children in father absent homes have not seen their father at all during the last 12 months.
  • Children who live absent their biological fathers are two to three times more likely to be poor, drug addicted, and abused while experiencing educational, health, emotional, and behavioral problems.

There's no question that fathers play an important role within the family unit and in society in general. Take some time today and figure out two or three ways that you can make your family a little bit happier.
