I always found it funny that so many people don't believe in alien life forms. Not that I'm a UFO junky or anything like that, but it's a very self centered view point to think that Earth is the only location in the universe capable of sustaining life. Especially when we can't even truly say whether or not life has ever existed on the other planets in our own solar system.
Astrophysicist Rasmus Bjoerk recently conducted a bit of interesting research in an attempt to determine the length of time it would take to explore the Milky Way galaxy.
If we had the capability of travelling at 1/10th the speed of light, and we had been exploring throughout the existence of the universe, we would have been able to inspect approximately 4% of our own galaxy. This figure is based on travel time and does not include the necessary delays that would inevitably pop up - time to inspect and analyze that which we would have discovered.
What this data tells us is that even if an alien life form were advanced enough to be searching through the galaxy for us, they would have to be extremely lucky to have actually discovered our little planet at this early stage of universal development.
Are they out there? Most certainly. Have they found us? Not likely, and not likely to happen for generations to come. You can sleep safe at night. They might not even be as "advanced" as we are. If they are, they might not even be looking yet.
