IE 7 Released. Boo.

To the consternation of webmasters everywhere, IE7 was released yesterday. While a few nice new features have been added, and CSS support has improved, webmasters are still going to have headaches over this one. Expect a new breed of CSS hacks to come out within the next week or so.

Many big companies are in trouble because they lack the ability to move quickly to change like this. I know at least one company who's site does not work at all with IE7, and it is not likely that there site will be updated anytime soon.

The good news is that the release does not mean that everybody is downloading it. In fact, I imagine that the foothold that IE7 has on the market right now is no greater than the firefox browser has. There wasn't an automatic update (thank goodness), although one is rumored to be scheduled for next month - perhaps after they correct the already announced security vulnerability.

The big plus is that there is support for RSS within IE7 - meaning that mainstream america will begin to start using news feeds the way you and I have been for the last several years. Expect an RSS Styling tutorial in the next day or two coming from me. Most of it was written a couple of weeks ago, but I have yet to put together some basic samples for Wordpress and Movable Type that would be useful to the general public.
