Today, I get to go to court to fight multiple speeding tickets on the 91 express lanes.
That's right... multiple speeding tickets. I ended up with two speeding tickets within 3 days from the same officer in almost the same location! Both times I was heading to a doctor's appointment, but neither time was I late.
I was just going to take traffic school for the first ticket, since I'm a pretty safe driver these days - I haven't received a speeding ticket since well before I got rid of my sports car. But the second ticket left a bad taste in my mouth for a variety of reasons.
The second time I was pulled over, I was flaming upset - mainly because I had been travelling dirt slow as a result of the first ticket and I had to hit the gas in order to avoid an accident. Right after I hit the gas, I turned around a curve and there was that same CHP Officer again.
As I went through both situations in my mind, I discovered that it was completely illogical for the police officer to actually get me on radar at the speeds he had cited me for.
To top it all off, I had a court date about a month ago. I went to fight the ticket, but traffic congestion made me late for court. On the way, I actually saw the officer who cited me giving somebody else a ticket - so had I been on time, the case would have been dismissed and I would be happy.
Now here I am at midnight trying to put together a defense - always the last minute with me - and hoping that the officer will have to work in the morning somewhere else.
Although I have a pretty solid logical defense, I'm concerned that due to the fact that there are multiple citations I will be assumed guilty by the judge, regardless. We'll see how it pans out.
Another of my problems is the fact that I'm just plain uncomfortable in a courtroom. The whole place just makes me nervous and I start noticing things that make me angry - like the fact that your odds of actually seeing a real judge are minimal, and forcing the issue just seems to make everybody in the room upset. And the fact that the entire place is geared towards intimidation and time wasting. And the fact... nevermind, I could go on for an hour.
Wish me luck in the morning. I'll need it!
