| Runs This Show | I've been playing with this a little bit and I am disappointed. With font file sizes ranging from 17K to over 150K you still end up being restricted to a small subset of fonts that would be appropriate. Most fonts would add at least 6 seconds of load time to dial-up users as well - with no help available from gzip compression. Researching, I did run across this article at ALA that looked interesting. I wouldn't use their php script without scrutiny - usually things thrown together for articles at ALA aren't built with security in mind, and it uses GD whereas I think ImageMagick provides better results especially where font rendering is concerned. Still, the technique is interesting and it wouldn't cost as much from a page load time perspective. My URL: http://www.stevekallestad.com | ||
